The COVID-19 pandemic has brought upon a new norm, whereby every single individual has to work from home (WFH). It is undeniable that some of us struggle to adapt to this new working culture and hence, this affects our productivity levels.
So, if you’re looking for a few ways to increase your productivity, here are some simple yet effective tips for you!
Tip #1: Set up a comfortable workspace
A comfortable environment is vital in order to get productive. Make sure you have a proper desk and chair, along with other necessary equipment such as headphones and a webcam to facilitate your work.
For instance, it is highly recommended for you to get an ergonomic chair to provide you the best comfort while working from home as you will be sitting in front of your desk for long hours.
Next, ensure that your work area is always neat and tidy. Having your things lying around everywhere would make it difficult for you to search for what you need and therefore, slows down the task at hand.
Tip #2: Perform tasks according to priority
To achieve maximum productivity, prioritization is an important skill to learn. Before starting your day, jot down the tasks to be completed by the end of the day. Then, rank your tasks according to priority.
To determine which tasks should be prioritized, identify tasks that are important first. Additionally, highlight tasks that need to be performed urgently.
Once you have done that, begin to work on your tasks according to their importance and urgency.
Tip #3: Take breaks when necessary
You do not want to face burnout while chasing productivity. Therefore, take your breaks when you need them.
According to research, it is ideal to take a break after 90 minutes of work. However, I believe that this is subjective for every individual. So, if you feel tired or notice that your work pace is slowing down, that is an indicator for you to take a short break.
A short break should range from 5 to 15 minutes. Be disciplined and ensure that you do not exceed your break time as there is a high tendency for you to end up procrastinating!
Tip #4: Use tools to organize your work
To increase your productivity levels, it is best to use tools that are available online. Tools such as Trello enable you to list down tasks that you need to do. You can even categorize these tasks into tasks to be done, tasks that you are working on, and tasks that you have completed, in order to achieve maximum efficiency.
If you are working on a group project with your colleagues, all you need to do is add them to your Trello board to keep track of each other’s tasks.
Besides that, using Google tools such as Google Docs and Google Calendar is a great way to organize your work. For instance, Google Calendar allows you to schedule meetings at any time and also gives you reminders about it. Google Docs is a lifesaver as well because it enables all documents to be stored online, auto-saves your work, and enables real-time collaboration.
The best part is that all of these tools are free! Yup, you do not need to spend a single cent to become productive.
